With “obama special olympics” bouncing around the top Google searches today, I’m hopeful that our beloved leader will step up and issue an apology for his remark on Leno. Hey Barack, I know you’re not really in need of any speechwriters, but here’s my suggested apology, in case you’re looking for a little hand-holding:
Many people are asking me about my “special olympics” joke on Jay Leno last night. What a stupid thing to say! I am truly sorry. I have the utmost respect for the Special Olympics, which brings opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to show their spirit and skill – to believe in themselves, and grow into heroes. Their good work even reaches as far as Afghanistan, which sent a delegation of young athletes to Boise Idaho for the Special Olympics World Winter Games this year. I owe an apology to the many fine people, families and supporters, who have given blood, sweat, and tears to build the Special Olympics into the proud institution it is today. And I especially owe my deepest apology to the Special Olympics athletes, who are some of our country’s noblest citizens. I hope that you will find it in your hearts to forgive me for my thoughtless remark.
I can’t understand why someone who is usually so careful with his words would make a comment disparaging such a beloved program. Seriously, who has anything bad to say about the Special Olympics?
