Interest is high in the Iowa court ruling today that found a gay marriage ban unconstitutional. Among the hot Google searches this morning are:
- iowa supreme court
- des moines register
- iowa marriage
- iowa news
- iowa judicial branch
- lambda legal
- one iowa
It strikes me as strange and interesting that none of the hot Google searches include the word “gay.”
Looking at the above, the phrase “one iowa” was unfamiliar, so I looked it up. Turns out One Iowa is a gay rights advocacy organization. But again, the word “gay” had a limited presence. In fact, the home page says things like “Together we are OneIowa” and “Fairness for all Families” “Marriage – Strong families are the backbone of Iowa’s strong communities” “Fairminded Iowans.org – Do you respect the courts?”
I can imagine reading the same exact words on a conservative website… with a very different meaning.
